Built on Audited Proof.
Not Blind Trust.
We believe donors, imams, and mosque boards have the right to know exactly where every dollar goes, how legal Waqf title works, and how family eligibility is independently verified in Afghanistan.
The 4 Pillars of Governance
Structural firewalls that separate commercial agricultural operations from charitable beneficiary verification:
Separation of Duties
Farm Operations vs. Beneficiary SelectionArghandab manages the livestock, veterinary health, and daily milking. Independent registered Afghan relief charities audit, survey, and select beneficiary widow and orphan households.
10% Mortality Shield
Active Livestock Replacement PoolA built-in 10% replacement reserve ensures that in the event of unforeseen livestock illness or mortality, a healthy replacement heifer is instantly allocated with zero cost to donor or family.
Audited Delivery Proof
Signed Monthly Delivery VouchersEvery milk distribution generates a timestamped delivery voucher signed by the recipient household and field verification worker, cross-referenced against daily Kandahar farm production logs.
7-Year Living Waqf
Irrevocable Biological Asset Usufruct100% of the cow's daily nutritional output is irrevocably dedicated to the assigned family for 7 full years (~2,550 days), transforming one-time emergency charity into lasting food security.
Seven Verifiable Realities on the Ground
Every stage of the One Cow. One Family model is anchored in documented physical infrastructure in Kandahar:
Real Operating Farm
Active agricultural acreage, deep solar wells, and commercial dairy pens in Arghandab Valley, Kandahar Province.
Real Tagged Cows
Numbered high-yield dairy heifers with veterinary medical charts, pedigree tracking, and digital life histories.
Real Afghan Workforce
Employed local Afghan farmers, milking crews, feed handlers, and on-site veterinary healthcare technicians.
Real Daily Milk Yield
Sanitary automated milking, chiller storage, and batch pasteurization generating ~18–22 liters peak daily yield per cow (~18.5 L avg), with 12–16 L dedicated to direct family nutrition.
Real Verified Families
Widow-led and orphan households audited under strict 4-pillar poverty criteria by independent charity workers.
Real-Time Digital Data
Live digital impact portal recording lactation volume, health updates, and signed monthly recipient receipts.
Independent Third-Party Charity Verification
Separating livestock stewardship from charity distribution. Registered Afghan implementing NGOs conduct independent socio-economic surveys, unannounced home visits, and collect signed delivery vouchers for every milk distribution.

The 22 Core Transparency Answers
Direct, unhedged answers regarding legal Waqf title, veterinary health protocols, 10% mortality shielding, and independent family verification:
Who owns the cow? (Sponsorship vs. Legal Title)
Sponsors establish a Biological Waqf (endowment) sponsorship. The physical animal remains legally held and stewarded within Arghandab Dairy Farm's charitable herd in Kandahar. Sponsoring does not transfer legal chattel title to individual donors—which prevents complex cross-border ownership, tax liability, or disposal disputes. Instead, 100% of the animal's usufruct (fresh milk and continuous nutritional yield) is irrevocably dedicated to the assigned vulnerable Afghan family for 7 years.
Is the campaign Zakat eligible?
Yes, under the standard Tamleek (transfer of ownership) and direct poverty relief criteria for 100% of milk rations delivered to qualifying Asnaf (vulnerable widows, destitute orphans, and poor households). For pooled cow asset capital, scholars advise designating funds under Sadaqah Jariyah / Waqf, while direct beneficiary food disbursements qualify for Zakat. We recommend consulting with your local scholar or mosque charity committee.
Are contributions tax-deductible?
Contributions made through our LaunchGood campaign partner (a registered 501(c)(3) charity in the United States or equivalent registered charity in Canada/UK) are tax-deductible to the fullest extent permitted by law in the respective jurisdiction. Official charitable receipts are automatically issued upon pledge completion.
What information does a sponsor receive?
Every sponsored cow receives a dedicated livestock record in our digital impact portal. Sponsors receive the cow's tag ID (e.g. #ADF-052), initial health certificate, photograph, regular lactation yield records, and verified quarterly delivery receipts from our local NGO partners.
Can a sponsor visit the farm in Kandahar?
Yes. Sponsoring organizations, imams, and donors traveling to Afghanistan are welcome to coordinate an in-person visit to the Arghandab facility in Kandahar with prior notice for biosecurity and facility security clearance. We also host monthly virtual live-stream farm tours for donors worldwide.
Exactly what does $4,000 fund?
The $4,000 sponsorship covers: (1) Procurement of a healthy, vaccinated high-yield dairy heifer; (2) 7 years of veterinary healthcare, vaccines, and deworming; (3) Balanced nutritional fodder and silage; (4) Sanitary daily milking operations and chilling; (5) Local pasteurization and monthly door-to-door milk delivery logistics; and (6) Contribution to the farm's mortality/sickness replacement reserve pool.
Does any amount cover farm operating costs?
The sponsorship includes the direct cost of maintaining that specific animal (feed, medicine, barn space, milker labor). Commercial herd operations and farm capital expansion are funded separately by Arghandab. Charitable sponsorship funds are ring-fenced exclusively for charitable herd maintenance and family disbursements.
What happens if a cow costs less than the sponsorship allocation?
All sponsorship capital is strictly ring-fenced. If the purchase price of an animal is lower than the upfront allocation, 100% of the surplus is automatically deposited into that animal's 7-year feed, veterinary healthcare, and mortality replacement reserve fund. Zero charitable sponsorship dollars are absorbed into general corporate profits.
What happens if a cow becomes sick?
The farm maintains on-site veterinary staff in Kandahar who provide immediate medical intervention, isolation stalls, and treatments. During any temporary illness or medication withdrawal window when milk cannot be safely consumed, the farm supplies clean milk from the general herd reserve to ensure the assigned family suffers zero disruption.
What happens if a cow dies unexpectedly?
Arghandab maintains an active 10% Livestock Mortality Replacement Reserve. If an animal passes away due to natural causes or unavoidable illness, she is replaced with a healthy pregnant heifer from the farm's reserve herd at no additional cost to the sponsor or family.
What happens when she stops producing milk (end of lactation)?
Dairy cows experience natural dry periods between calves (typically 60 days before giving birth). The farm manages scheduled breeding cycles so milk flow is continuous across the herd, and dry-period allocations are buffered from the collective herd yield so families receive uninterrupted nutrition.
What happens to offspring (calves)?
Calves born to the charitable herd are retained and nurtured within the farm's breeding program. Female heifers are raised to replenish and expand the biological waqf herd for future generations of vulnerable families, establishing an enduring multi-generational perpetual charity.
How are beneficiary families selected?
Families are selected based on a strict 4-Pillar Vulnerability Assessment: (1) Zero steady household income; (2) Widow-headed or disabled primary earner; (3) High ratio of dependent young or school-aged children; and (4) In-person home visit verification by our local charity partners in Kandahar.
Can a donor nominate a specific family?
Institutional donors (mosques sponsoring 5+ cows) may submit qualifying families for review by our Afghan NGO partners. All nominated families must pass the same independent socio-economic verification audit to prevent favoritism and maintain equitable charitable distribution.
How does the partner charity verify genuine need?
Local partner field workers perform unannounced household visits, inspect living conditions, review family identification, and cross-reference records with community elders to confirm that the household possesses no other steady source of food or income.
Who distributes the fresh milk?
Milk is chilled and pasteurized at the Arghandab facility, then packaged in tamper-evident food-grade containers. Local Afghan implementing charities manage the distribution route directly to beneficiary homes or designated community distribution hubs.
What records and audit receipts are retained?
Every distribution logs: (1) Date and volume of milk delivered; (2) Beneficiary receipt acknowledgment; (3) Field worker verification signature; and (4) Photo/video audit samples where culturally appropriate and with beneficiary privacy consent.
How frequently is milk distributed?
Milk is distributed weekly or bi-weekly depending on the family's location and refrigeration capabilities, totaling the monthly nutritional allocation required for healthy child development.
How long does assistance continue for a single family?
Assistance is guaranteed for the full 7-year productive life of the biological waqf. If a family's economic situation improves substantially (e.g. older children gain stable employment), our charity partners re-evaluate the slot to transition support to another critically vulnerable household.
Where is Arghandab, and where is the physical farm located?
Arghandab is an agricultural valley located in Kandahar Province in Southern Afghanistan along the fertile Arghandab River. The physical facility comprises active dairy pens, deep-well water irrigation systems, enclosed winter and shaded summer barns, mechanized milking parlors, and agricultural fodder cultivation land.
How are cows purchased, and what purchase documentation is generated?
Heifers and dairy cows are procured through verified regional agricultural breeders and livestock markets. Every cow undergoes a full veterinary quarantine inspection, deworming, and vaccination before entering the herd. The procurement generates an official Bill of Sale, veterinary clearance certificate, and permanent ear-tag registry record.
How does the Sponsor Dashboard work?
Sponsors and partner organizations receive digital access to follow their cow's lifecycle. The online dashboard records the animal's ear tag, health history, breeding and calving updates, milk yields, and signed monthly milk delivery vouchers confirmed by our independent NGO auditing partners.
